Programmes of ecological education for schools

Bratislava Zoo offers interactive programmes about ecological education for schools as a supplement for biology, zoology and natural history classes in our primary schools and secondary/high schools. Programmes are free of charge (pupils or students have to pay only entrance costs, teachers do not pay) and run on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9am until 12pm. For all programmes we also offer work sheets.

Programme No. 1 - AMPHIBIANS (Amphibia)
The basic characteristic of amphibians - anatomy, physiology, zoological system, threat and conservation of amphibians.
Duration: 45 minutes

Programme No. 2 - REPTILES (Reptilia)
The basic characteristic of reptiles - anatomy, physiology, zoological system, threat and conservation of reptiles.

Programme No. 3 - BIRDS (Aves)
The basic characteristic of birds - anatomy, physiology, zoological system, threat and conservation of birds.
Duration: 60 minutes

Programme No. 4 - MAMMALS (Mammalia)
The basic characteristic of mammals - anatomy, physiology, zoological system, threat and conservation of mammals.

Programme No. 5 - SAVE THE RHINOS (Rhinocerotidae)
The basic characteristic of rhinos, introduction of the five species of rhinos, the role of rhinos in the nature, threat and conservation issues

Programme No. 6 - FOLLOW THE FOOTSTEPS OF BIG CATS (Pantherinae)
Comparison of big and small cats, typical features of big cats, fur and colorization of big cats, marking of territory, hunting, role of big cats in nature, cannibalism.
Duration: 30 minutes

Programme No. 7 - THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WOODLAND AND THE SUN
Basics in ecology: definition, adaptation of living organisms to environmental factors, ecological valence and niche, biotic and abiotic factors, biocoenosis, relationships among living organisms, ecosystem, trophic chains.
Duration: 60 minutes

Programme No. 8 - ENDANGERED ANIMALS
The importance of animals in the nature, areas with the highest species diversity, reasons of endangerment, means of conservation.
