About our ZOO
Zoological garden Bratislava Municipal contributively institution Set up by: Bratislava, the Capital of the Slovak Republic Established: May 9th 1960 Main activities: • Breeding and conservation of endangered animal species • Scientific and research work • Education of the public with the aim to create a sense of responsibility, as well as raising conservation awareness about the nature in the form of lectures, educational panels and labels about animals, ecological education events and programmes for schools • Designing conditions for relaxation and daily recreation

The most vulnerable animals: Addax antelope, European bison, White rhinoceros, Turkmenian kulan, Pygmy hippopotamus, Golden-cheeked gibbon, Sri Lankan leopard, Cotton-headed tamarin, Gray mouse lemur, Pygmy loris, African hunting dog, Przewalski´s wild horse, Markhor, and many more
Notable exhibits: • Breeding facility for South African lions, Tigers (white form), Jaguar and Sri Lankan leopards • Terrarium and exhibit of exotic species with Slender-tailed meerkats, tropical monkeys, sloths, armadillos, and two new fresh water Malawi and Tanganyika aquariums • Enclosures of rhinoceroses and kangaroos • Enclosure of zebras and giraffes • Enclosures of antelopes and pygmy hippopotamuses • Lakes in a natural style with flamingos and pelicans
Services for visitors: • Buffets opened from April 1st until October 31st • Zoo shop with wide range of promotion material and souvenirs open from April 1st until September 30th - by buying merchandise you contribute towards breeding of our animals • Two playgrounds for children • Pony riding during weekends from April 1st until October 31st
Two children playground complexes in Bratislava Zoo: On April 27th 2008, a ceremonial opening of two children playground complexes took place, which were build on the location of the original playgrounds. These areas include many fun climbing parts which comply with the health and safety norms of the company that built these playgrounds, Direct Media, Ltd., Brno. • The upper playground, close to the zebra exhibit, contains many colourful ropes to climb on (a gift from Quinta Essentia, Ltd., Združenie Lanové centrum Bratislava), trampolines, rodeo animals, electrical children cars, and area designated for cultural and social events. • Children complex near the carnivore pavilion contains climbing areas and fun elements for small children (swings on springs), children’s power shovel, blow up castle and a new Zoo shop. Children playgrounds are assigned for fun for children of all ages, and adult supervisors can also spend relaxing time here since benches, refreshment corners and vending machines with drinks are permanent fixtures in the near distance from these complexes.
