Fire brigade in Bratislava Zoo

On July 21 and 22 2017, members of the HaZZ (Fire brigade and Rescue Corps) together with voluntary firefighters from Petržalka and Ružinov came to the rescue in Bratislava Zoo. However, they did not come to extinguish any flames, they came to help to overcome water scarcity.
The long-lasting high temperatures are tough not only on humans but also on animals. The water levels in lakes with flamingos, ducks, swans, spoonbills and ibises dropped dangerously low due to the drought, and therefore we asked the fire brigade for help.
They managed to increase the water levels in these lakes and thus helped to improve the environment for water birds for which the sufficient water levels are an essential part of their environment.
We would like to thank all the firefighters on behalf of the whole Zoo for their help, willingness and readiness to help without any reward. Without their professional assistance and provided equipment, we would not be able to raise the water levels in lakes. We appreciate the help and express our gratitude.
